Details

This year the garden will be open to the Walsh Community. Plots will be cut and ready to plant by Memorial Day. Water lines are on site. Also included will be a tool shed with tools and a wheelbarrow to share among participants. Gardeners supply their own seeds and plants, mulch, stakes and whatever else they might need in their individual gardens. The clean up deposit paid at the beginning of the season will be refunded after plots are cleaned up in the fall.
The garden is located near the tennis courts and walking path behind the Hoover Historical Center.
Welcome
Community Garden
Statement of Purpose
Walsh University is dedicated to educating its students to become leaders in service to others. When Walsh community members make meaningful contributions to others, demonstrating lifelong commitment to service, then the University succeeds.
“Sed Deus Dat Incrementum” is from 1 Corinthians 3:7. The full text reads “Therefore, neither he that plants is anything, nor he that waters; but God that gives the increase.”
Fifty years ago the University grew from acres of farmland and as a legacy to these Founding Brothers of Christian Instruction, this community garden cycles back to the earth in order to continue to cultivate it for the future.
In keeping with the mission of the University, the community garden aims to provide sustainable outreach to campus and community members by providing an opportunity to both learn about gardening as well as providing a means to bring this education to fruition.
The community garden will also be a place of repose and serenity for those who seek such things. In essence this outdoor space will not only help to educate and serve others but also provide wellness by tying together the mind, body and spirit.
