Archiving Your Scholarly Publications

Create a Google scholar account

Google Scholar is by far the most widely used bibliographical tool for scholarly publications. However, it has some problems with metadata and finding the information you want can be difficult. Other researchers can have difficulty finding your work as well.

You can enhance your findability by creating an account and telling Google which publications in their database are yours.

  1. You'll need a Google account. If you don't have one, go to Google and create one
  2. Next, go to Google Scholar. Make sure you are logged in and click "My Citations"
  3. Click on the stack icon in the upper left corner, then click on "Settings" (4)

Google scholar page - select settings

5. Select Library links to find our library. "Walsh University Library-Access@Walsh" will search all of the resources in our library. If this isn't on your list, you'll find it using the search box

About Google Scholar Profiles

Google Scholar Profiles:

  • Will not consider name variations, including maiden names
  • May co-mingle works by different authors with the same name in its citation counts
  • Can have trouble with hyphenated names
  • Can have trouble with names that include apostrophes or other marks (like O'Neal)
  • Counts retractions the same way it counts other citations
  • Citation counts are easily gamed
  • Does not create a unique identifier
  • Not fully integrated with ORCID and other author profiles.
  • Because new articles are automatically added to authors' profiles it is wise to check regularly and remove articles wrongly attributed to you.
