Can I put a textbook on reserve in the library?
Yes! We have several textbooks already on reserve and we take suggestions and personal copies for the reserve shelf as well. Contact library@walsh.edu to add content to the reserve shelf.
I have a teacher edition of a textbook that includes a code for online content. Can I disseminate that content to my students?
Many publishers create this online content with the assumption that the only way to have access is via purchase. You should not put this sort of content on ECN or elsewhere due to this publisher restriction. You could, however, ask for permission from the publisher. Click here to learn how to get permissions.
Can I make photocopies of chapters of a textbook and hand them out to my students?
You could make a photocopy of about 1 chapter to hand out to your students during one semester. This is also ok if a student purchased a textbook but it has not yet arrived or the bookstore has run out. Photocopying more than one chapter for multiple semesters would most likely violate Fair Use.
My teacher edition textbook came with streaming videos. Can I put those videos on ECN?
I recommend contacting the publisher before adding streaming content like videos. It may be that the textbook publisher would want all of your students to individually purchase the online content themselves. Click here to learn how to get permissions.
