Assignment criteria to consider (NURS 220)

Select 1 theory of nursing & be prepared to present your information considering the following:

1.) How does your Theory/theorist define Nursing, Health, Person (client/patient) & Environment?

2.) Describe & connect the Theory in relationships with each term (How does the idea of Health or Person relate to the Theory's concept/definition of Nursing or Environment?).

3.) Provide evidence of this Theory in practice (search for recent case studies in our Nursing databases). This must be done by utilizing professional Nursing resources to support your thoughts on the Theory in modern practice. Use academic, peer reviewed journals to provide examples.

4.) Give your thoughts on the Theory's clarity, simplicity, generality and usefulness. For example, ask yourself how broadly can this theory be applied? Does it make sense in a specific circumstance? Does this theory help the Nurse in his/her duty to the patient? Can you personally summarize the theory and have it make sense to someone else?

For general knowledge on Theories of Nursing, look over this guide for access to a variety of resources.  For reportable examples from our databases on the Theory in practice, search by the name of the Theory AND nursing, limiting your returned results then to the last 5 years.  Be sure you are reviewing not just professional literature, but peer reviewed sources of information

Personal Philosophy of Nursing

A personal philosophy of nursing paper is written in the first person to give your perspective on central concepts in nursing (Client, Health, Nurse, Environment) You will continue to edit/refine/restate your philosophy over the course of your career at Walsh. You are required to show learning by expressing your ideas & concepts through the lens of the information covered in your courses.

Tips on figuring out your personal philosophy of Nursing

This is a formal APA style paper (even if you know you are going to be revising it multiple times), so include a Title Page and section headings where appropriate. Include your references with in-text citations AND a references page at the end of your document.
