Finding Statistics

Contains statistical information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government as well as information on the characteristics and movements of the federal prison population through the National Prisoner Statistics, the Federal Justice Statistics Program, and the Survey of Inmates in State and Federal Facilities.

The FBI’s UCR Program is a nationwide, cooperative statistical effort of nearly 18,000 city, university and college, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies voluntarily reporting data on crimes brought to their attention. Since 1930, the FBI has administered the UCR Program and continued to assess and monitor the nature and type of crime in the Nation.

The UCR Program consists of four data collections: The National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), the Summary Reporting System (SRS), the Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA) Program, and the Hate Crime Statistics Program. The UCR Program publishes annual reports for each of these data collections and a preliminary semiannual report of summary data each winter, as well as special compilations on cargo theft, human trafficking, and NIBRS topical studies.

The FBI's interactive Crime Data Explorer tool serves as the digital front door for UCR data, enabling law enforcement and the general public to more easily use and understand the massive amounts of UCR data currently collected.

The archive offers a user-friendly interface to download data on criminal justice. The site includes Quick Tables of statistics and an on-line analysis tool, Data Analysis System (DAS).

Scroll down for links to the National Incident-Based Reporting System, or NIBRS, was implemented to improve the overall quantity and quality of crime data collected by law enforcement by capturing more detailed information on each single crime occurrence. NIBRS’ first annual published compilation of data covered calendar year 2011, and NIBRS data was also used to publish several specialized reports on topics such as sex offenses, human trafficking, and federal crime data.
