The story that most people know, Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, tells that detailed story of three women known as “human computers”. The three women incorporated in the story are Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaugh, and Mary Jackson. The story behind these women were to be the brains behind the scene at the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory in Virginia. Along with being groundbreaking women in their field, they were also some of the first African American women in the field. More importantly they were the first to become managers at the Langley research center, in which they took control and helped to send John Glenn into orbit in 1962.
